how to be a donor

You may register to be a donor on Ohio's Donor Registry. Online registration may be accessed by going to: www.dps.state.oh.us/netsys/netdb/ENGLISH/APPRV.asp. After you sign up to be on the registry, be sure to tell your family about your decision to be a donor. Telling your family about your decision now will make it easier for them later.

It is federal law that all local hospital deaths are reported to the LifeBanc / Cleveland Eye Bank call center, One Call for Life. At that time donor suitability is determined. If the donor is accepted, the family is offered the opportunity to give the gift of sight. If they decide to donate, a medical / social history interview will be conducted with a close family member.

If the donation is not suitable for transplant, it can still help others by advancing scientific research and education.
